On Tuesday 18th June, the Coalition for Global Prosperity marked World Refugee Week by hosting a packed room in parliament to showcase the leading work that the UK is doing to enable economic resilience and development for refugees across the world.

Britain has always commanded huge respect in the international arena; we punch well above our weight despite our size as an island nation. Today, the UK sits on the G7, G20, Five Eyes and the United Nations Security Council. We are one of the few countries to have hit the 2% target for NATO. And we are a global leader in development, committing to the 0.7% overseas aid budget to ensure the UK helps spread prosperity around the world.

The Coalition heard from senior speakers including; Dr Hartwig Fischer (Director, the British Museum), Tom Tugendhat MP (Chair, Foreign Affairs Committee), Tim Loughton MP (Chair, British Museum APPG), Lord Collins (Shadow International Development Minister), Shoshana Stewart (CEO, Turquoise Mountain), Jonathan Tubb (Iraq Director, British Museum), Stephen Stenning (Director, British Council) and was chaired by the BBC’s Kirsty Lang.

The Coalition for Global Prosperity was delighted to host a cross-party dinner on International Development on 13th May in the House of Lords. The event brought together senior parliamentarians from all of the four major political parties, as well as representatives from the Labour Campaign to International Development (LCID), Conservative Friends of International Development (CFID), Liberal Democrats in Development (LDID) and the SNP to discuss the future of international development and how we can work together to alleviate global poverty

The Coalition was delighted to host a private roundtable with Minister for Investment Graham Stuart MP and business leaders today on to discuss how the UK private sector can drive prosperity overseas.

On Tuesday 12th March, the Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to co-host the official Red Nose Day parliamentary reception, to hear from South African project partners about the work of Comic Relief.

On Monday 11th March, the Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to host Sir David Attenborough CBE, Secretary of State for International Development, the Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt MP, and a panel of experts to call for Britain to continue to act as a global leader in tackling plastic pollution.

On Wednesday 27th February, the Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to co-host a private lunch with Johnny Mercer MP in the House of Lords on the intersections of defence and development.

On Wednesday 30th January, the Coalition for Global Prosperity, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Development were delighted to co-host a private roundtable with the Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific, the Rt Hon Mark Field MP, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

On Tuesday 29th January, the Coalition for Global Prosperity and Joffe Trust were delighted to co-host a private roundtable on civil society perspectives of ‘Global Britain’, kindly held at the Center for Global Development.

On Monday 17th December, the Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to host the Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, and a panel of experts to call for Britain to continue to act as a global leader in wildlife protection.

On Monday 10th December, the Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to co-host Rory Stewart MP (Minister of State for Justice), Lieutenant General (retd) Philip Jones CB CBE DL, Major General Ralph Wooddisse CBE MC (Assistant Chief of the General Staff) and Kate Ewart-Biggs (British Council) for a panel debate in parliament.

On Thursday 6th December, the Coalition for Global Prosperity and Christian Aid were delighted to co-host Lord Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury for a private lunch in the House of Lords.

On Tuesday 13th November, the Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to co-host Director and UN advocate Richard Curtis CBE, Secretary of State for International Development the Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt MP, and former First Minister of Scotland Lord Jack McConnell in parliament to call for Britain to remain a force for good in the world.

The Coalition for Global Prosperity kicked off conference season in Liverpool for Labour Party Conference. Alongside Bond and the Labour Campaign for International Development (LCID), the Coalition co-hosted the annual international development rally to a packed room.

Barely a day goes by where we don’t see horrific pictures showing the devastating impact of war splashed across our front pages. We are facing the largest refugee crisis since World War II and yet Uganda, home to over 1 million refugees, rarely makes the front pages.

CEO of the Coalition Theo Clarke spoke this week on the lifesaving impact smart British aid is making abroad. Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference debate titled ‘How do we get value from the aid budget?’ hosted by the Taxpayer’s Alliance.
